CPUs on the Prowl. Beware.

All Ye Hyderabadis! Beware of the CPUs on the move. These ubiquitous species can be seen on all the roads in Hyderabad. No, they are not any new devices invented by the traffic cops to harass us. They are a breed apart from the normal road users of Hyderabad.

Yes, you guessed it right, they are the Cell Phone Users. But then, I presume this is a pan-Indian phenomenon, I stand corrected if I'm wrong.

The CPUs can be seen in three distinct hues - the 'Busybee Executive', the 'Insouciant Female' and the 'Blissfully Ignorant Youth'.

The 'Busybee Executive', as the very title suggests, is so busy that he has no time to stop his vehicle by the roadside but continues to drive on as he responds to the caller on his mobile. He is busier than the PMoI Dr. MMS. No amount of honking from behind troubles him. 'I drive and also talk/chat and care not what happens on the road' seems to be the attitude of this multi-tasking Executive.

The 'Insouciant Female' is indifferent to the traffic as she walks nonchalantly, with only her vocal, audio and motive faculties 'in action' and every other organ (the thinking faculty especially) being in a state of 'inaction'. She continues to blabber with that characteristic nonchalance challenging you for crossing her path, "It's my grandpa's property, you change your way and don't you dare bother me." Left with no other alternative, the poor driver has to brake and change his course to go on.

And, the 'Blissfully Ignorant Youth' could be of either sex, no gender bias here. Being neither a child nor an adult, this species is so hooked to the mobile phone that one starts wondering if they are born with the handsets attached to their bodies. Don't jump to conclude that they could be part of the above two species. What distinguishes them is their fixation with SMSes and songs from the latest movies playing into their ears; and they exhibit an amazing dexterity in playing with the keys while sending messages. Equally amazing is the swiftness with which the songs land-up in their handsets as soon as the audio of a movie is released. They are lost in music, blissfully ignorant of the happenings in the world around them.

May God save these souls by infusing a sense of belonging into them, and bring them back from that 'Cellular World'.
PS: My friend Kash is the inspiration for this post. The other day he was narrating his bitter experience with an "Insouciant Female" on the road.
